In Toledo, Belize there are many traditional Mayan villages. I am Elsbeth, originally from the Netherlands, and I live with my partner Rod, from Canada, in one of those villages. We have traveled extensively and found this area very appealing. But in Toledo there are very few places to stay for budget travelers and so we made the place that we would have loved to stay at. Our guesthouse is located on our 11 acre organic farm, in the Kek’chi Maya village of San Miguel on the Rio Grande. The farm, the village, the river and the jungle are within walking distance.
The private room has a double bed, a table and chairs. Both rooms have wall fans, 110V outlets, mirrors and securely screened windows. If so requested, the rooms can be connected which makes it suitable for a family. The private room costs 60 $ BZ (30 $ US)
The shared facilities are clean and spacious and run on rainwater, with hot showers. They are just a few steps away from the door of the room.
We can also provide tents for camping. Camp with your own tent for 10 $ BZ (5 $ US) or rent a tent for 20 $ BZ (10 $ US).
Wifi and telephone are available for guests.
We serve delicious and healthy meals and drinks, prepared with fresh local farm produce, on the thatched roofed palapa. Meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans are welcome.
We can only accept cash, so bring enough. The nearest ATM is in Punta Gorda, 25 miles from San Miguel.
