Welcome to Back-a-Bush guesthouse

Overview of Back-a-Bush, farm and guesthouse, palapa, San Miguel Toledo BelizeWelcome to twelve acres of peaceful nature. Here, you will experience the hospitality and nature of all creatures – human and otherwise. Wake to the sound of native birds, have a hot shower, sit under the thatched roof and have a relaxing breakfast made from locally grown, organic foods (our coffee is grown, ground, and roasted here. The homemade bread is highly favoured) while listening to the laughter and goings-on of our little village.

San Miguel is a traditional Kek'chi Maya village of self sustaining farmers.  Spend your days exploring the village, going to the nearby ruins of Lubaantun, hiking to the Tiger Cave, taking a tour of a cacao farm, having lunch with a Maya family and making your own chocolate, bird-watching, relaxing in the hammocks, walking to – and swimming in – the beautiful Rio Grande river, then come back to camp and upload photos to share with family and friends using the wifi.

Originally, when this land was purchased, the guesthouse was the only structure on the land in which the previous owner lived, until Hurricane Iris destroyed much of this area. Since this time, we’ve watched with awe as nature repaired herself, bringing back the lush, green beauty that was once her legacy.

The guesthouse has been renovated and now has one room that accommodates a double bed and two bunk beds. A second addition holds a double bed with a table and two chairs. There is a connecting door between the two rooms, in the event of a small group or family. All within feet of a hot shower and flushing toilets (a rarity in this village)… not to mention a plethora of dogs, ducks and other animals who will raise a ruckus should any intruders come along.

For more privacy, there is a spacious cabin set to the back, with 2 singles and a double bed, a sink, a private bath and a private porch with hammock. Enjoy the view of the jungle!

Each room comes with sheets, blankets, towels, soap, outlets and a fan. All windows are screened. However, chances are you’ll only spend time in your room, when you’ve become exhausted from your adventures! Secure parking is available. Prices are 30 $Bz. and up.
